Johnny Steiner is a teacher.

Shooting Stars

He has directed the chorus at Saint Charles Preparatory School in Bexley, Ohio since 1998, arranging many of the group's concert pieces.

He is a founding-member and instructor with "Shooting Stars Youth Theatre" in Marion, Ohio which celebrated its tenth year in 2007. Shooting Stars teaches students all aspects of theater - from creative drama to voice to dance to set and costume design.

Each week, Johnny has a roster of 40 private voice students at ACT TWO STUDIO, a performing arts facility he shares with friend and Broadway veteran Kristi Wink.

Johnny's voice program focuses on all aspects of good singing - including posture & breathing technique, phrasing & characterization, and style & interpretation. Studying privately is a class unlike any other. Studying voice helps increase range & vocal clarity, expand musical repertoire, instill good working habits, and boost students' confidence. Studying voice privately gives students 100% focus on perfecting their craft. Private lessons help to prepare students for upcoming auditions at school, community theaters, and beyond... In addition to weekly private lessons, Johnny's program includes 2 studio workshops, 3 class seminars, 2 recitals, solo contest, and an informal summer performance/party.

During the 2005/2006 school year alone, Johnny's private students could collectively boast roles in over a dozen plays, leads in 11 fully staged musicals, superior to excellent ratings at contests, solos at about 15 area churches, participation in over 25 show choir competitions, 2 full length voice recitals, 1 local television commercial, and countless vocal solos at school concerts and events.

I am immensely proud of what I do at my studios in Marion and Columbus, and I'm immensely proud of each and every one of my students.

One of the many facets of a voice teacher's job is to teach good and responsible preparation for a performance. My students have each built a repertoire of solos for church, school, weddings, theater auditions, and so on. They are ready to sing right now - today.

I believe in the practical application of the singing voice, and it's no secret that I don't limit my students solely to classical music in the studio - a fact that has drawn criticism from other teachers. I have firmly believed from the time I began teaching eight years ago that good and proper vocalism can indeed be taught and implemented regardless of the genre of music. The training my students get is of course derived from classical teachings, but it is applied to everything they sing, regardless of its origin or style. As a performer myself, I practice what I preach - come see me in musical theater, watch me swing with a big band, or hear me as the tenor soloist MESSIAH. I constantly strive to be a better performer and better teacher.

Being an instructor and mentor is probably the most gratifying thing I do in my professional life. I have high expectations for all of my students, and believe in them 100%. I applaud their talents, I encourage their hard work, and I celebrate in their successes. I am immensely proud of my teaching, and strongly believe my studio is turning out the most seasoned, well-rounded, and professional young performers around. Watch for their names in lights.
